Our Founder
Scientific leadership, local roots, and a sustained commitment to practical philanthropy.
Dr. Damaris Maweu is a Kenyan public servant and philanthropist whose career brings together scientific leadership, community commitment, and a sustained concern for vulnerable households. She was appointed Director of the Kenya Medical Research Institute in 2023, a national leadership role that reflects both professional credibility and public trust.
Her earlier professional path includes service in pharmacy at Kam and Malibu Pharmacies, the founding of Daroma Chemist, and academic training in pharmacy at Mount Kenya University. Those experiences helped shape a practical approach to service, one that combines health awareness, resource discipline, and direct responsiveness to everyday needs.
Through the Damaris Maweu Foundation, she has translated that approach into community action. Our foundation spans educational access, women's economic advancement, widow support, youth leadership, elder care, disability inclusion, and community health outreach. Across these areas, the core vision is consistent: people deserve support that is respectful, relevant, and capable of changing long term outcomes.
“Service becomes meaningful when it restores dignity, expands access, and leaves people better equipped to shape their own future.”

Leadership Integrity
We extend the same values visible across our founder's public life: access, respect, and continuity.
Dr. Damaris Maweu is a leader whose philanthropic work is inseparable from her broader record of public service. Her appointment to lead KEMRI, her professional background in pharmacy, and her county-level political engagement all contribute to a profile that combines institutional authority with strong grassroots recognition.
That combination matters profoundly to us. It allows our organisation to act with purpose, informed by sustained professional experience and grounded in real service to the communities that need it most.
